Capstone Project: Prevalence of Obesity and Diabetes in Food Deserts

My MPH capstone project involved finding appropriate data regarding food deserts and the prevalence of obesity and diabetes in U.S. counties in order to determine if an association existed between food deserts and the prevalence of these conditions. I used U.S. Census data, data from the Centers for Disease Control, and data from the Food Desert Locator (provided by the Economic Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture). After cleaning and merging data from these sources in Microsoft Excel, I transferred the data to STATA for analysis. After analyzing the data, results of the analysis and my conclusions were included in a report and were also presented to the faculty in a poster session. The paper and poster are available in PDF format below.
